Young Writers in Nature at UCSD

Research shows that the developing brain needs active exploration to make sense of the world, fostering a love of learning, natural curiosity, and excitement for discovery. Young Writers in Nature provides opportunities for students to satisfy their innate curiosity by exploring and writing about the natural world

Session 1 Dates: June 22 - 26, 2026
  • Entering grades 3-6 in the Fall of 2026
Session 2 Dates: July 20 - 24, 2026
  • Entering grades 3-5 in the Fall of 2026

Time: 8:30am - 12:00pm

  • nature journaling and sketching
  • poetry and expository writing
  • outdoor exploration and hiking
  • native plants and ecosystems
  • revision through collaboration
  • use of field guides (plants/animals)
