Young Writers' Camp (YWC) for Grades 3-10

Dates:  July 25 - August 5, 2011 • 8:30am-12:00pm, Monday-Friday @ UCSD

YWC: Improving Students' Academic Writing (ISAW)

Dates:  July 11 - July 15 • 8:30a - 11:30a

Cost:  Registration fee of $300 includes 15 hours of group instruction in the summer.

Instructors:  Divona Roy and Eric Helle

Description:  During this 5-day program, high school juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to improve their academic writing skills.

During this program students will begin to develop the writing skills and tools necessary to succeed in higher education. Instructors will help students to see writing from the perspective of college-level instructors and enable them to develop the resources necessary to deliver the quality of work required in higher education and other post-secondary environments.

YWC: The College Admission & Application Essay

Dates:  July 18 - July 22 • 8:30a - 11:30a

Cost:  Registration fee of $300 includes 15 hours of group instruction in the summer and one-on-one essay counseling in the fall. Fall follow-up counseling date to be determined.

Instructors:  Divona Roy, Monique Lamphiere-Tamayoshi and Holly Bauer

Description:  High school seniors and community college transfer students will have the opportunity to develop thoughtful, personal, powerful admission and application essays for colleges, universities, and other post-secondary programs.

This time will allow students to read sample essays, learn about the role of personal statements in the application process, and explore a variety of writing styles and topics useful in the process. This program will provide personal attention to each student. (12:1 student/teacher ratio).

Fall follow-up session:  Students will make an appointment to meet one-on-one in October with an essay counselor to revise and complete their essays.
